RPM Launches First TV Ad About Dayton
|
Highlights:
|
|
Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton and Deputy Chairman Michael Brodkorb unveiled the Party's first television advertisementof the 2010 gubernatorial campaign this week. Entitled “”Erratic, the new ad highlights Mark Dayton’s failed record and erratic behavior.
- “As a U.S. senator, Mark Dayton was a complete disaster. Citing his ‘erratic behavior,’ Time magazine named Dayton one of America’s five ‘worst senators,’ and even Dayton graded his own performance in the Senate an ‘F.’ Democrats ridiculed his decision to shut down his office over a non-existent terrorist threat. After Dayton wasted six years in the Senate, Minnesotans can’t afford to have him waste another four years as governor,” said Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton.
- “It is past time Minnesotans got to know the real Mark Dayton. After millions of dollars in slick television ads, Minnesotans deserve to know the truth about Dayton’s failed record and erratic behavior. As our ad makes clear, Dayton is too risky for Minnesota,” said Republican Party of Minnesota Deputy Chairman Michael Brodkorb.
- We also launched the website www.daytonfacts.com where voters can find out the facts about Mark Dayton. You can keep up with the latest information on Mark Dayton's failed record and erratic behavior by liking Dayton Facts on Facebookand following Dayton Facts on Twitter.
- KSTP political reporter Tom Hauser put “Erratic” to the “Truth Test” and graded the ad an A- for accuracy.
- Dayton held a press conference in response to our ad, calling for a cease-fire. Meanwhile, he left his two German Sherpherds alone in his car for over 40 minutes in 90 degree weather.

Quote Of The Week:
|
|
|
Chair Sutton on Mark Dayton closing Senate office after a nonexistent terrorist threat: “‘Now what does that say to the people in Washington, D.C. when Mark Dayton says “there's a threat; I'm sending my staff home,”’ Sutton said. ‘What does that say? Leaders don't do that. You can't get scared and frightened and close the governor's office.’” (Tom Weber, "GOP;s first TV ad paints Dayton as 'erratic'," Minnesota Public Radio, August 11, 2010)

Republican Party of Minnesota: Dayton Is Obstacle To Education Reform
|
|
Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton today issued the following statement regarding Democrat gubernatorial candidate Mark Dayton’s endorsement by Education Minnesota.
- "Mark Dayton has promised the teachers' union the moon without either talking about common-sense education reform or saying how he will pay for new money for schools. A career politician like Mark Dayton thinks that middle-class taxpayers should be taxed more to pay for this special interest government union endorsement. If he is elected governor, Mark Dayton will do as he has done in the past in office: protect powerful special interests and defend the status quo. Unfortunately, our children deserve better than the status quo. Tom Emmer is the only candidate for governor who stands for empowering parents and rank-and-file teachers to improve our schools."

Taxin' Tarryl Clark's Lackluster Showing Signals Trouble in November
|
|
Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton issued the following statement regarding Tarryl Clark’s unimpressive win in this week’s Sixth District DFL primary election.
- “Taxin’ Tarryl Clark is completely out of touch with the Sixth Congressional District and her lackluster showing yesterday shows that even Democrats don’t like her tax and spend agenda. In her primary, Taxin’ Tarryl captured only 65 percent of the vote months after her opponent dropped out of the race. As a big spending liberal who championed ObamaCare, backed the failed stimulus and voted to raise gasoline taxes, the metro wide sales tax, license tab fees and income taxes, Clark is going to go over like a lead balloon in November.”

Kersten Highlights Dayton Family`s Attacks on Tom Emmer
|
|
In Sunday’s Star Tribune, Katherine Kersten wrote about the alliance between Mark Dayton’s family and a group of pro-Dayton front groups which are behind a series of attack ads against Tom Emmer, the Republican endorsed candidate for governor.
- Kersten writes:
- “Few American political stereotypes are as durable as the myth that Republicans are the party of fat cats. You know -- the corporate tycoons and investment bankers who puff cigars in dark, paneled rooms as they bankroll elections for Big Business. Democrats, in the myth's telling, are Ordinary Joes -- lunch-bucket types who fight a lopsided, uphill battle against entrenched big-money interests.
- Welcome to the real world, Minnesotans.
- In the 2010 governor's race, it's Republican Tom Emmer -- an Ordinary Joe with seven kids to feed -- who's pounding the pavement for every $1,000 check he brings in. He and his team spend lots of time focusing on small donors -- the source, despite the myth, of a disproportionate amount of the Republican Party's cash.”

Dear Supporters,
As we enter into the final weeks of this campaign, I hope you are as excited as I am about what’s been happening. We have closed a 14-point gap and are in a virtual dead heat with Senator Dayton. This incredible momentum is proof that people believe in Tom’s vision for the State of Minnesota.
Earlier this month Tom laid out the only honest and balanced budget proposal. A budget that calls for immediate tax reform to spur economic growth and put Minnesotans back to work. A budget that calls for increased funding for K-12 education and redesigning our education system putting parents and teachers back in charge. A budget that does not raise taxes and more importantly balances by keeping government living within its means.
The time for change is now. We can longer go about “politics as usual.” There is too much at stake. Our jobs and our families depend on a new direction for Minnesota — a new direction that is filled with prosperity and opportunity. Every voice must be heard, every Minnesotan has a choice in this upcoming election and it’s a choice about what kind of future you want for yourself and your family.
Our success would not be possible if it were not for you and your support for our positive vision for Minnesota. Tom believes in putting people in charge, not government. We must restore common sense responsibility to state government and allow businesses, schools and families to flourish.
Over these last 38 days we need your help more than ever. Please consider volunteering by calling the Campaign Office at (952) 562-6000 or e-mail.
Thank You, Cullen Sheean, Campaign Manager
