A commentary by Co-Chair Steve Fults

My grandson asked me the other day what is the difference between a Republican and a Democrat? I gave him this short, but I feel the number one difference. The Republican is a strong believer individual rights and capitalism. We all have the right to personal happiness although not necessarily given it. Capitalism has proven to be the best tool ever found to provide financial happiness, pure happiness is a whole other matter. I won't even try to go into that.

In that context the Republican tries to encourage small businesses by lower taxes, less regulation, and other business plans to help them grow and prosper. As they grow they hire more employees and sometimes become much bigger businesses or corporations and hire many more people. Some people want to penalize big business with higher taxes and more regulations. The question is why and when does a tool that hires our people and strengthens our economy become evil? Of course we could tax these companies/ corporations to fuel our government for more government programs, but wait we already did that; Bought Anything From China Lately? These businesses, I call them tools, hire the valuable labor source in this country. They in turn pay the taxes that fuel our government for the vital tasks that the government must perform. Without these jobs we have unemployment and a greater need for social programs. Which in my opinion brings one to the Democrats. They seem to be the great promoters of big labor and many social programs. Claiming to only be concerned for the poor. Under this pretense they call for big government, more programs, and the old adage of tax the rich and give to the poor (Robin Hood). Sounds great but what happens when the rich all run out of money, Oh wait I think the U.S.S.R. tried that, have you been to Cuba lately?

This is a short comparison and there are many more things we could discuss but this is the main reason I am a Republican.

PS don't tell me you're an independent unless you tell me what it independent stands for.
